Wow, life goes on and on and it never stops surprising me. 🙂

Here I am on a 10 hour bus from Saigon to Nha Trang with group of seven crazy Vikings.

I was at my hostel in Saigon last night sitting on my bed doing some photos and generally not doing much at all. Took some pretty nice shots during the day around Phnom Penh.

While I was sitting there being bored and everything a couple of Brits arrived in the dorm. They put all their stuff away and were talking about going out. I invited myself to join them and they of course accept – damn I love travel. They’re putting shirts on so I decide what the hell, let’s have a night out on the town! Lucky I brought a shirt with me so I chuck it on and we head out the door.

We walk round the entire block and find absolutely nothing going on and nowhere to eat. And it starts to rain. So we’re passing this big bar/restaurant on a corner, and I see a big group of backpackers sitting out the front. I go up and ask them if they know of anywhere good to eat. They tell me they’ve just arrived in town and don’t know anything, but that we should sit down and join them.

So we sit down, start having a great yarn with them all, but the prices are super expensive. I talk about it with Isaac and Nick and they decide that it’s way too much for them, so we head off to find somewhere else to eat. We pick this awesome pizza/pub place where the beers are actually cheap and we get up on the mezzanine floor in pride of place since there’s no room on the ground floor.

After a few beers we decide it’s time to move on. Nick has heard about this place called Le Pub that is supposedly amazing and he has the address so we head off. I say we should go back to the other bar and pick up the Norwegian group as well, so we go back and find them still there. We tell them about Le Pub and ask if they want to join us. Hell yes they say!! After some dubious GPS navigation we actually find it and the place is packed to the gills. Like three floors of complete madness. There are no seats. Beer costs $3. We walk directly across the road and there are tables outside where beer costs $1. We are geniuses.

We all get hammered and it’s fantastic. The Norwegians are an awesome group of 7, they’re all friends from back home and all travelling south-east Asia together. At some point they tell me they’re heading to Nha Trang tomorrow and that I should come. They have a bus ticket already booked but I can probably buy one when the bus is leaving. Worst I can do is try right?

The next morning I get up at a ridiculous 7:30, grab my stuff and head round the corner to their hostel. We all grab our bags and head for the bus. I don’t have a ticket, but I sandwich myself in the middle of their group, the bus operator manages to miscount how many of us there are, and I am in for free!!!

The bus ride itself was totally sweet. It was a sleeper bus that turned out to be super comfortable, unlike all the ones I took in Thailand and Cambodia. It was split into three rows of seats with two aisles, and then two levels of seats (bunk style). It’s a beautiful trip, the scenery is incredible. The conversation around me is mostly in Norwegian but who the hell cares – I’m on a bus I didn’t pay for, going 350km in the wrong direction with a bunch of Vikings!!

This is going to be awesome…
