2012 was an amazing year for me. I made a plan at the start of the year to get a job and save up enough to leave the country by May and travel for the rest of the year. Travel is an incredible experience. I met so many amazing people on my trip that changed my life in so many ways.
Over the course of the last 8 months I’ve travelled through 11 countries. I’ve failed terribly at five border crossings: turned up on the wrong date, got my glasses and my shoes stolen, didn’t have any money for the visa, had to make a fake airline ticket just to get in, and very nearly died. I didn’t get sick that much, but the few times I did it was one hell of an experience! I celebrated my niece’s first birthday in Vietnam, I climbed a big-ass mountain in China, I was almost killed by wild dogs, I jumped off a 160 metre high bridge in Nepal, and I lost a fight with a truck.
And along the way I saw a lot of amazing places and took some amazing photos.
I had a bunch of goals that I wrote down at the start of the year and I checked them all off. 2012 has been an amazing year for me, and I wouldn’t have traded it for anything.
Life is beautiful, and if you ever have the chance to sell everything you own, pack a couple of t-shirts in a bag and book a ticket into the unknown, then I strongly recommend it.
Bring on 2013. 🙂

The only problem with going off-grid is that you missed the end of the world on Dec 21.
Don't worry Murray. That'll be waiting in the mail in Spain.
